One winter in Alaska, I helped a colleague chop trees for a bonfire, and before I climbed into the pickup, I wanted a photo of the ice road. I pulled off my wet gloves and grabbed my little Sony. After about 30 seconds, my fingers began to ache, as if simultaneously burning and freezing. 

Frostbite is the gift that keeps on giving, so bring dry gloves when you carry a camera in the Arctic.
